Golf Things Considered
This is a roving column dedicated to anything and everything related to golf. John Rogers first started writing this column in 2004 for the online newspaper, Augusta Free Press. Many of the columns have focused on golf instruction, but some simply tell stories, some are whimsical ramblings, and others address topics such as golf equipment and fitness. Lakeview Golf Club
Lakeview Golf Club, located on the east side of Harrisonburg, Virginia is a friendly and scenic 36-hole layout. The original nine holes dates to 1962, and the final nine was completed in 2002.
Lakeview offers memberships as well as public access, and its modest fees (highest rate of $41 to ride on weekends) make it a great value. The Lakeview Course plays 6,517 yards from the back tees and features some fairly tough par-4's, but reachable par-5's. The Mountainview Course stretches out to 6,978 yards. It includes the newest and toughest nine, and some fun three-pars. There is a full-service pro-shop at Lakeview run by Golf Director Greg Hooke, as well as practice facilities. Lakeview is less than seven miles from Massanutten Resort, a short drive from Skyline Drive, and located in the middle of the many splendors of the Shenandoah Valley.
